Pilgramage to Glastonbury
Going to the Woodard gathering at Glastonbury on 20th June proved to be a very positive experience for Years 6 & 7. It was helpful to meet staff and students from other schools who are part of the Woodard 'family'. The day was described as a 'pigrimage', a term which can appear off putting in an increasingly secular society.
The reality of the day was quite different: yes, we went on a 'journey' firstly to Glastonbury itself but within the day to see the Holy thorn which flowers twice a year, reputedly growing from stock planted by Joseph of Arimathea. However, we also enjoyed some presentations in the Abbey ruins by some Living History presenters and took part in an open air Eucharist. St Margaret's was approached to lead the prayer time and two of our girls also took up the offertory. As Chaplain, I was approached to help with the administration of the chalice which I found very special.
I am very grateful to the staff 'team' who accompanied me and to Canon Brendan Clover, the Senior Provost, who initiates these regional events.
