Charity Reps’ Report
Upon becoming Charity Reps, we decided to focus our fundraising on two charities for the year – one international and one local – as we felt that this would be more beneficial than giving small amounts to lots of different charities.
We enlisted the help of the whole school to decide on our charities and all the pupils voted for the ones they wanted to support, from a shortlist we created. The clear winners of this vote were Save the Children and Devon Air Ambulance, two highly worthwhile causes for us to support.
The most successful event of the year for us was the Christmas Talent Show and Raffle, which raised £85. Though very hard work to organise, it felt totally worthwhile when the whole school gave the Juniors’ winning performance of Grease a standing ovation.
Other events this year have included a colouring competition for the Juniors, a Fair Trade tea party, and St Margaret’s Day, during which the pupils ran stalls and events and we had a retiring collection at our Service in the Cathedral. The day raised the biggest individual total of £587. We have also raised money from Mufti days and the church service collection at our school’s Confirmation Service.
Our target at the beginning of the year was to raise £2,000 and we are proud to say that we have already exceeded this with over £2,400 raised so far. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this, especially the parents, Hotel Chocolat and Animal who kindly donated prizes for the Raffle.
It has been an incredible year and we feel immensely privileged to have been given this opportunity. The experience has been challenging at times but immensely rewarding for both of us and we have learned valuable skills for our future careers.
