A Level Results 2009
St Margaret’s celebrated record-breaking A Level results this year, with just over 50% of girls gaining A grades and 80% gaining A or B grades. In fact very few girls were without at least one A grade.
Headmistress Sheila Cooper said, “We are utterly delighted with our results this year. We take a broad range of ability and then bring out each individual’s potential: some girls this year would never have believed they had it in themselves to do so well! We are proud of all their achievements today and during their time with us – such as working for the Goodwill Village in India on their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s award.”
The girls’ wide range of interests is reflected in the courses they are going on to next year – to take degrees in subjects as various as the Sciences (including Medicine), English, Modern Languages, Economics, Geography, Theology, Psychology – the list goes on! St Margaret’s inspiring Art Department continues to enthuse girls as well - for Architecture, Advertising and Film Making, as does the school’s strength in physical education and the great outdoors, with girls going on to Sports Studies and Physiotherapy.
“One aspect of life the school prides itself on is that our Sixth Form is not just about gaining good results, although that is important. Sixth Formers learn to lead other girls in all the activities on offer and discover the rewards and demands of responsibility. This growth in confidence and sensitivity to others’ needs, is a real benefit as they move on to the next stage of their education.”
