Music

Great emphasis is placed on Music in the curriculum in order achieve good standards in performing and composing through listening an appraising.

A huge amount of enjoyment is achieved through singing and all pupils in the Prep Department are members of the Junior Choir.  They sing at church services, concerts and in the Summer Production.
Many pupils have individual tuition to play an  instrument and there is the opportunity to play in the Junior Orchestra once a certain standard has been reached.

Each class has two periods a week of music in addition to individual lessons and extra curricular music.

Drama

Drama is an integral part of the curriculum in Junior House.
Every pupil has a designated period of drama once a week, where they are able to develop the following skills:

  • Observational and memory skills
  • The ability to concentrate and work positively with others
  • To develop interpersonal skills
  • To gain confidence
  • To work in role and use language expressively

In addition to this, pupils can elect to take Speech and Drama as am extra curricular subject.  They will be able to practise voice projection and the speaking of verse and prose.  Pupils will also be prepared for the graded LAMDA examinations in Verse Speaking or Acting.

The culmination of our year’s work involves the whole of  Junior House in a joint music and drama production, which also involves many elements of movement and dance.  Pupils play a major part in designing and making costumes and scenery, so it is an exciting cross-curricular venture. This is a project the girls look forward to throughout the year and the standard of acting and singing is truly impressive.
