Geography

Geography is about the study of places, the human and physical processes which shape them, and the people who live in them.
Children are given the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding.  There is a balance between physical, human and environmental geography.  Activities are planned that encourages full participation by all children irrespective of ability.  Throughout the year there are many opportunities for geography field trips.

History

In History we aim to give children a sense of their own identity within our social, political, cultural and economic background and to ensure the development of historical concepts, knowledge skills and attitudes.
We endeavour to help children gain a level of historical understanding appropriate to their age, ability and maturity using a variety of teaching resources and ICT skills.
Teaching in class is enhanced by educational visits, historical presentations and the use of audio visual aids to help children gain an understanding of the chronological order of historical periods and events.

Religious Studies

RS in the Prep Department follows the Exeter Diocesan syllabus and aims to present the pupils with a base of spirituality from which they can contribute their own ideas and learn about the faith of others.

Festivals and their origins form an important part of our study as do visits to other places of worship and visiting guests. During their time in the Prep, pupils will have a gained a full understanding of the Christian faith and greater knowledge of Hinduism, Judaism and Islam, which are compared and contrasted with Christianity.
