We aim for our pupils to:
- speak clearly and confidently in any situation
- listen actively and respond appropriately
- read with increasing fluency, for both pleasure and information
- use spelling rules, phonics and grammar
- write, with confidence, in a range of genres
- express opinions, articulate feelings and formulate responses to a range of texts
- be interested in words and their meanings, and to develop a growing vocabulary
- develop powers of imagination, creativity and a critical awareness in all areas of literacy
