Art
Through our Art lessons we aim to inform enquiring minds about images and artefacts that are part of their world today based on differing historic and religious cultures. Pupils are encouraged to develop a range of practical skills in wet, dry, two and three dimensional forms. They are given the opportunity to experiment with different materials and techniques and to make informed choices when evaluating their own work and the work of others. Pupils are then able to adapt and develop their ideas.
Design Technology
Design Technology stimulates interest and motivation in designing and making and offers the opportunity for children to achieve in a practical subject and to develop their knowledge of the ‘made’ world in which they live. It also allows them to develop many personal skills requiring co-ordination, dexterity, mental deduction, imagination and perseverance. Pupils will have practised social skills when working as a team and self-sufficiency when working independently.
At St Margaret’s Design and Technology is taught as a subject from Years 3 to Year 6 and is often linked to topics of a scientific or historical nature. There are a variety of resources which are accessible to children in a permanent Design and Technology area.
Year 5 & 6 also study Food Technology and enjoy the practical cookery sessions in the Home Economics room in the Senior School. Food Technology is taught by dedicated Home Economics teachers.
