Easter Presentation
On Friday afternoon, the Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep School joined together to present Music and Drama performances in an ‘Easter Presentation’. It was a real joy to see all the pupils both participating with such enthusiasm, and enjoying each other’s performances. There were some excellent solo and group poems, which had recently been performed for LAMDA exams and at the Devon Performing Arts Festival, with considerable success. Without exception, the girls delivered their pieces clearly and expressively and many were very amusing! Musical solos represented the talent and diversity of our Prep School music-making, ranging from piano, clarinet and vocal solos, to flute duet and violin trio.
Years 3 & 4 began the proceedings with a dramatisation of David Longbourne’s Shrove Tuesday story - ‘The Square Pancake’, which they had previously performed as part of a whole school assembly. The story has become quite a hit and was clearly enjoyed by audience and performers alike.
A highlight of the afternoon was the Nursery performing two numbers, which they have learnt as part of their Easter preparation.
Years 3 & 4 returned to play their violins, violas and a ’cello in three group pizzicato and one bowed piece, to demonstrate the skills they have been learning in class. It is wonderful that several of these girls have already been inspired to take up these instruments in individual lessons – our future orchestra in the making!
The whole Prep-School joined together to give a lively rendition of two well-known Carpenters numbers – ‘Sing’ and ‘Top of the World’ and the foot tapping from the audience was most noticeable!
The theme of the afternoon was typified by the Pre-Prep musical Cantata - ‘Easter Praise’, telling the Easter story through music and drama. They sang and narrated with wonderful confidence and enthusiasm.
The proceedings ended with the Prep School Choir celebrating our lives together at school and the joy of the Easter message, with the Gospel ‘Lord’s Prayer’.
Afterwards, seasonal refreshments were enjoyed by the participants and our visitors.
Many thanks to all the staff who contributed to the success of the afternoon. As is so typical of St Margaret’s events, it was a real team effort.
A very happy Easter to everyone!
