Pancake Day

Shrove Tuesday celebrations began with a whole school assembly, in which Years 3 & 4 acted out a story called “The Square Pancake”, accompanied by music especially composed by the Year 10 GCSE Music Group and narrated by Mrs Lowles.

The Year 3 and 4 girls then made pancakes during their breaktime to mark the occasion and share with schoomates. With help from Year 10 girls and under the watchful eye of Mrs Elaine Clark, the budding young chefs carefully measured the ingredients, mixing the batter and frying the pancakes.

The Express and Echo photographers came into the school to take pictures of them for Page 3. They also took a video whilst they were here, which can be seen on the Express and Echo website

Nursery and Pre-Prep Pancake Day

On Tuesday the Pre-Prep and Nursery classes celebrated Pancake Day. The day started with a pancake themed assembly followed by activities in their classrooms. While the younger children were creating frying pan, the older ones were looking at the history and religion behind Shrove Tuesday and Lent, doing pancake maths and studying how recipes are written.

During the day, they all had the opportunity to make pancakes and, of course, to eat them! The day culminated in a series of pancake races which all the children participated in. It was quite a sight to see the children, dressed in aprons and chef hats, racing along tossing their pancakes, with only a surprisingly small number of pancakes being dropped on the ground!

A quote from the children sums the day up - ‘That was such a fun day!’
