The Speakeasy Murders
1929 – Although Al Capone had been in prison two months for carrying a concealed weapon (1 year sentence) the streets of downtown Chicago were still red with blood from the continued gang violence over illegal liquor. Other gangs, including his main rival, Bugs Moran cashed in on his absence. Mayor Deland, a supposedly upstanding figure in the community came up with a plan to test if the 18th amendment: the ban on alcohol, was really working. For a two month trial period he authorised that ‘The Regal’– one of the largest clubs in Chicago could sell liquor. It is here where this murder mystery unfolds.
