Why teach cookery?  Here at St Margaret’s we are acutely aware of the importance of nutrition education alongside developing practical competence.  Students of all ages have the opportunity to learn essential practical skills and gain enormous enjoyment from creating tasty recipes for their families to try.  From tropical smoothies in Year 5 to extensive research on iron in teenage diets at ‘A’ level, students have the opportunity to taste new foods and confidently prepare challenging dishes.  Over the past year, students have created Pizza bagels and an unusual chocolate cake with hidden vegetables for the school menu; it wasn’t banana or carrot! Our Ready Steady Cook House competition in June was the noisiest session this year,  everyone mucked in together with peels of laughter as the final few minutes saw the finishing touches going a miss!

St Margaret's Senior School Curriculum   Geography and Cuisine Trip

After having ice cream and lunch we walked around the top of Mount Vesuvius, luckily it is dormant. Lots of us picked up volcanic ‘bombs’ that were huge lumps of solidified lava and we could see why people had died if they had been hit them on the head when they were shot out of the erupting volcano.
