  Extra Curricular - Drama

Drama is an exciting subject that gives you the opportunity to explore different types of theatre and performance.  This includes working on scripted pieces along with devising your own productions.

Not only will you learn how to use your voice and body effectively to create a dynamic character onstage, you will benefit from gaining confidence to perform in front of a live audience a skill that you can carry with you later on in life.

Drama is also about teambuilding, learning to work together as you discover different genres and styles of the theatre.  A great experience for people of all ages!

Year 7:
Basic drama vocabulary and rehearsal techniques such as freeze frame and thoughts aloud.  How to develop a character using different stimuli.

Year 8:
Discovering different genres in theatre such as comedy, murder mystery and soap opera.

Year 9:
A more in depth study of characterisation and improvisation using a range of different texts and stimuli.

St Margaret's Senior School Curriculum   'The Witches'
Four weeks into the first term of the year and ‘The Witches’ is ready to be performed. Without Miss Agg-Manning it would not have been half the performance it has become. The rehearsals were testing and tiring, however the sense of achievement after each one made it all worthwhile (with the help of ‘Dominoes’ pizza which was delivered numerous times.)

  St Margaret's Senior School Curriculum   'Lions Pride'
The school productions at St Margaret’s have given me very many happy memories, and I still can not quite believe this is my last one!  I have tried to get involved with at least one production a year during my eight years at the school, and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. To think that my first production was directed by Mrs Agg-Manning and my last by Miss Agg-Manning! The Lion’s Pride has been an absolute joy to be a part of,

St Margaret's Senior School Curriculum   'Daisy Pulls it Off!'
The production ‘Daisy Pulls it Off’ was a definite success, with the audience enjoying fantastic acting from all involved. The cast had worked very hard for the show and had lots of fun along the way and it showed through their enthusiasm especially during their energetic dance routine to “Bad Boys”!

  St Margaret's Senior School Curriculum   Road and Two
I could not be more proud of the Year 11 cast, they were able to produce a very intense and thought provoking performance. The last five weeks of rehearsal time has finally paid off. We have taken two of Jim Cartwright’s plays and incorporated them together, allowing each girl the opportunity to have her moment to shine, which they did, with such a high degree of creativity and flair

  ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’
Working towards ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ has been an amazing experience. Not only has Miss Agg-Manning given us the incredible opportunity to perform Street Theatre in the centre of Princesshay, she has also given us the chance to act at the Barnfield Theatre! Working on a Shakespearian piece has been extremely challenging;
