Pre-Prep and Nursery School Teachers
Our enthusiastic team of staff are dedicated to creating happy confident children. We aim to build strong relationships with our families so that each child can grow and develop, having the confidence to ask and answer questions in our safe nurturing environment.
Mrs Suzy Allen - Head of Pre-Prep and Nursery School
Year 2 Teacher
Trained at Westminster College, she gained a Bachelor of Education Honour degree in Primary Education, specialising in Maths and Music. She taught for 8 years , covering the entire primary range, in schools in Exeter and Southampton, where she was responsible for music, maths and learning support, before taking time out to look after her three children. On returning to teaching she became Deputy Head of a Nursery School for 3 years before moving back into primary education. Having joined St Margaret’s in 2005 as the Year 4 class teacher, she set up the Pre-Prep and Nursery department which opened in September 2008. She currently teaches the Year 2 class.
Mrs Michelle Jones
Year 1 Teacher
Trained at the Rolle Faculty of Education, University of Plymouth in Exmouth where she gained a B.Ed Honours degree in Primary Education, with an English specialism. She is also a qualified Montessori teacher. Before joining St. Margaret’s School staff, she worked for fourteen years in Flight Crew Training at British Airways, where she trained flight crew and cabin crew. After staying at home for two years to raise her young daughter, and following her teacher training, she joined St. Margaret’s in January 2010 teaching in the Reception class. She now works with the Year 1 children.
Mrs Anita Peattie
Reception Class Teacher
Mrs Peattie achieved a first class Honours Degree before completing a two year teacher training course through the College of St Mark and St John in Plymouth, during which time she gained experience of teaching in many schools. Since qualifying, she has worked in various parts of the country and in both state and independent schools. She has taught all of the age ranges within the Primary sector, and has held leadership roles. After having had a few years away from teaching to bring up her two young sons during their formative years, she has returned with great enthusiasm and personal experience regarding the development of young children.
Mrs Rebecca Sharpe
Reception Class Teacher
Mrs Sharpe graduated with a B.A in Geography and a PGCE from Exeter University. She gained her PGCE in Primary Education, with a specialism in Early Years and won the Ted Wragg award for Outstanding Trainee. This is a most impressive feat which few teachers achieve! Since qualifying, she joined St Margaret's in 2008 where she has thoroughly enjoyed teaching both the Nursery and Reception classes.
Mrs Eleanor Oelmann
Nursery Teacher
Mrs Oelmann studied for an M.Ed at Leicester University, specialising in the Primary Curriculum and Special Needs teaching. She also qualified as a Montessori teacher. She taught in a wide variety of settings both in the UK and overseas and has taught across the Primary age range. She spent 7 years teaching in a nursery setting in an independent school in Bath. She has recently returned, with her husband and two teenage boys, from working in Kenya. She is thrilled to be teaching Nursery children again as she loves this age group, especially their enthusiasm for learning.
Teaching Assistants
Each of our classes has a teaching assistant who works alongside the teacher, delivering the curriculum and supporting the pupil’s development. They are all highly qualified, as either high level teaching assistants or with the equivalent of HVQ level 3 in childcare and the majority are trained Paediatric First Aiders. Many of the assistants also work in the After School Club and during the holidays, running the Holiday Club. This provides continuity for the children’s development and creates even stronger relationships.
