Fantastic Public Speaking Success!
The English Department has reason to celebrate with outstanding performances given by our pupils in this year’s rounds of the Rotary Youth Speaks Competition. . .
In the Devon final of this year’s Rotary ‘Youth Speaks’ competition, Lucy Norman-Walker was named best speaker . . .
Two teams from St Margaret’s have taken part in the Devon final at Intermediate and at Senior levels this March. The girls acquitted themselves admirably and St Margaret’s was the only Exeter school represented, after 3, previous rounds, with a team at 2 levels of the competition.
Lucy Norman-Walker was named best speaker at both levels. Well done to Lucy and to everyone in the teams!
Girls from all three age groups (Junior, Intermediate and Senior) made it through to the District Finals of the competition,
The Junior Team – Rebekah Wade, Eleanor Fowler and Rebekah Norman- Walker (who received Best of Thanks) – reached the District Finals with a persuasive speech in which they posed the question: Where Have All The Children Gone? Their presentation was very well received by an appreciative audience.
Eleanor Grange, Charlotte Mackenzie (Best Speaker) and Julia Owen gave a thought-provoking speech in the Intermediate section where concern for modern day society was reflected in their chosen topic: Why Is Western Society So Materialistic?
The Senior Team made up of Julia Whiting, Lucy Norman-Walker (Best Speaker) and Chloe Knott delivered a compelling speech where they asked the audience to consider the following question: In This Information Age, Are We Receiving Too Much Information?
