French exchange 2008:

As the coach pulled away from the school on our last night, we knew that the visit had been a triumph, as so many people were crying. Even some of the French parents were crying!

We have just returned from Brittany on the first leg of our 7th French exchange. Two calm Channel crossings, cloudless blue skies and unbroken sunshine everyday in France, helped a great deal; this was certainly not the weather we had anticipated for February.

Everyone entered wholeheartedly into the spirit of an exchange, endeavouring to speak French, and making the most of the experience of living with a French family and going to school in France. In fact for the first time ever, some of our pupils asked why they couldn’t spend the whole day at the French school going to lessons!

We had a very entertaining afternoon doing a town trail in Morlaix, organised by the local Museum, during which several members of the group became utterly mesmerised by our handsome guide.

During our visit to Quimper, we had a brief tour of the beautiful cathedral, then whilst the teachers sat on the “terrasse” of the café 21, Place de la Cathédrale, the pupils embarked upon some serious retail therapy about the town. These girls obviously know how to find a good bargain!

Sad as we all were to leave, everyone is really looking forward to the return visit by the French at the end of April.
