National ICT award!
Some of Year 8 attended the House of Commons to receive their award.
The TES Newsday competition is in its 17th year and nearly 800 schools from all over the country entered. A newspaper, website or podcast has to be created and published in one day. 16th March 2007 was the day - which coincided with Comic Relief day. Our newspaper was to be called ‘Marguerite’s Muse’.
Feature copy, a colour supplement and ‘free CD’ were created prior to the date. Then, on the day everyone in Year 8 worked in teams to create the news and sports news sections and to construct the pages using a Desk Top Publishing application. Parents and friends of the school were able to place advertisements published within the newspaper.
In May we discovered we had been awarded a Distinction certificate and were being considered for the shortlist for the national awards. Later, came the invitation to attend the final award ceremony in the House of Commons on Friday 29th June 2007. We were a nationally short-listed school!
Everyone was very excited when our school name was announced as the national winner in our category at the presentation luncheon. We were presented with the ‘Best in Key Stage 3 – First Time Entry’ trophy. TES Newsday
As well as the trophy the school received an ‘Alphasmart Neo’ – the latest text processor designed to be taken on field trips and other situations outside a normal ICT environment so that data and text can be recorded and downloaded directly into a computer on return. |
