Activities
We try to incorporate all aspects of our syllabus spread over Wednesday evenings. The subjects include drill, military knowledge, skill at arms (shooting), use of map and compass, first aid, fieldcraft and self-reliance training.
The winter months have meant that some theory was covered under cover, but we have managed to get up to Woodbury Common on a couple of occasions to practice the cadets at basic fieldcraft skills and putting theory into practice. The cadets can now (in theory!) put up their own bashers, can move effectively with or without a rifle, understand formations and can deliver hand signals and a variety of other skills. Although some of the year 9’s struggled under the weight of the rifles for patrolling, it seems to be coming together nicely.
Wyvern Barracks has been an excellent venue for weapon handling and drill. SSgt Gould is more than happy to put the cadets through their paces and we’ve seen a marked improvement and strangely enough the cadets seem to really enjoy it.
