Snowy Day
While many of us were worrying about the snow on Tuesday, the Pre-Prep department decided to make good use of it. The timetable for the day was abandoned and replaced by a Snow Day. All the activities for the day were based around the snow and all areas of the curriculum were covered.
They listened to the story of The Snowman and cut out snow flakes. A Maths lessons on capacity, involved the Reception class working out how many cups of snow would fill containers. Years 1 and 2 learnt how to use thermometers and recorded the temperature of the snow and the air temperature inside and outside. Negative numbers were an interesting new concept! Snow was collected in a tray and temperatures were recorded as it melted.
Art work was created showing snow falling and settling on the trees. An amazing number of snow-related words were brainstormed in literacy by both classes. Years 1 and 2 went on to create snow poems. A movement and drama lesson involved acting out a snow story.
During break and lunch times a snowman-building competition took place in the Junior garden with each of the four houses competing to create the biggest and the best.
After lots of hard work, team effort and much fun, Nightingale house were pronounced the winners. Congratulations to all who took part.
The children are now eagerly looking forward to the next fall of snow!
