Ten Tors 2009

‘Anticipation and Adrenaline’ summed up the atmosphere, as the thousands of walkers from different schools rippled out across Dartmoor in the early hours of Saturday 9th May.

Our girls set out at 7am, forming two 35 mile teams and one 45 mile team. Everyone was extremely successful, with one 35 mile team completing the event at 2.45pm, the other finishing at 3.40pm and the valiant 45 mile team arriving back at 3.30pm!

Through the tears and blisters, each person did amazingly well, and as they munched their congratulatory pasties, Year 10 enthusiastically said they were already considering doing the 45 mile walk in Year 12!

So after 6 months training, do the girls think it was worth it? ‘Definitely!’ beamed Suzie Adams, Year 10. ‘I’d do it again, it was worth the blisters!’ adds Alice Wynne, also Year 10. ‘We even get to wear flip flops to school!

Well done to everyone who participated!

Congratulations to all 3 teams who did so fantastically well over the weekend !

35 Miles Team: Molly Tyson, Chloe Payne, Beth Petersen, Julia Brown, Alicia Hignell, and Suzie Adams
35 Mile Team: Emma Rutledge, Ellie Grange, Alice Wynne, Julia Owen, Emma Keatley and Rose Neild.
45 Mile Team: Lannie Churchill Abi Leger

Our only scare was Julia Brown who had a wobbly moment and felt faint. The rest of the team reacted brilliantly and walked her off to the nearest tor – meaning that rather than ten tors, they ended up walking eleven!

We cannot thank our Sweeps enough for all their devotion and sacrifice to enable the girls’ training over the last six months. Mr Maxwell has been responsible for devising the training routes and his trusty crew made up of Pete Heggadon, Colin Gardner, David Cropp and Mike Painter have made it all happen. Even though Mrs Maxwell couldn’t be there in person, she had been busying herself behind the scenes and had organised all the catering for the event. We really couldn’t have done it without the team. Thank you!
