Summer Sunshine
The Prep School concert last Friday was another example of the wealth of music going on at St Margaret’s and once again it was enjoyed a full house. The range of instruments represented and the many different styles performed were also very impressive. Without exception, the girls and boys rose to the occasion and it continues to be a real pleasure to see them performing with such assurance and obvious enjoyment, especially at such a relatively young age.
The concert opened with a lively traditional Brazilian number, partly improvised, by the Prep School Orchestra. This was followed by two delightful songs sung and played by the Pre-Prep students.
The Year 3 & 4 Class String Group continue to learn enthusiastically and to make excellent progress, and having now learnt to play ‘up-bows’ as well as ‘down-bows’, they were delighted to perform two new pieces employing these new skills!
Between group performances, there was a wonderful variety of solos and duets on a diverse range of instruments ranging from piano, clarinet and flute, to viola and drum-kit, displaying a great variety of musical styles.
The concert finished with the Prep School Choir singing a short Cantata, telling a version of the traditional story of the ‘Pied Piper’, with some additional narration by Year 6. The choir performed admirably and conveyed the story and its various emotions very clearly and convincingly.
A huge thank you to Mrs Maby and to all the Visiting Music Teachers, who put in so much time and expertise to help make occasions such as this so successful.
