Ski Trip

Full of high spirits, 27 pupils and 3 staff left St Margaret’s on their 21 hour journey to the mountains in Switzerland for the long-awaited 2009 Ski Trip.

With boots and skis fitted, Saturday skiing had arrived! Eager anticipation filled the coach as it left the hotel in Interlaken for the 30 minute journey to Grindelwald.

During the week, the group had the opportunity to ski in three different areas which included Mannlichen, Kl. Scheidegg and the Schilthorn.

By the third day, even the beginners had negotiated a variety of lifts, attempted a red run and skied the mountain from top to bottom. The advanced group kept John, their instructor, in line by showing off their brilliant skiing as well as novel tricks. Furthermore, the intermediates settled into an exciting timetable of skiing with their instructor, Elliot.

Much hilarity was enjoyed throughout the week, ranging from Simon (the beginners’ instructor) with his entertaining humour and some very spectacular wipe-outs in deep snow by various members of the group!

New snowfalls during the week made for superb skiing in light, fluffy powder, and skiing with the Eiger towering above was spectacular.

A brilliant week of skiing finished with a cable car ride to the revolving restaurant at the top of the Schilthorn which appeared in the James Bond film: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. At 9748ft, the views from the top were amazing and seeing a Golden Eagle circling above was certainly an unexpected highlight. Jane Roberts
