Rotary ‘Youth Speaks’
On Monday 2nd February at 6pm at the Area Final, both teams acquitted themselves admirably.
As in the previous round, Becca Stacey, Hattie Collins & Natasha Howes explored the question of whether beauty is more than skin deep. Natasha was deemed to be the best ‘Intermediate Proposer of the Vote of Thanks’ of the evening.
Ellie Grange, Charlotte Mackenzie & Julia Owen spoke again about greed rather than need being a key motivator in the twenty first century. Charlotte is to be particularly congratulated on having reached this level in this year’s Public Speaking competition while, at the same time, having achieved a place in the final of the Rotary ‘Young Musician of the Year’ for her piano playing. Many thanks to all those students & parents who have supported this year’s teams
In the senior round two teams represented St Margaret’s Lucy Norman Walker, Rebecca Loram and Emily Lewis formed one team and Lucy took as her subject, ‘I want it all and I want it now.’ Rebecca Loram was voted best Chairperson of the evening.
Charlotte Mackenzie, Eleanor Grange and Julia Owen formed the other team and Charlotte took as her subject, ‘Greed not Need!’ She was voted best speaker of the evening and this team goes through to the next round.
In the intermediate round, three teams represented the school. Hannah Thompson, Katherine Galling and Olivia Galling made up a Year 7 team and Hannah spoke on the subject of ‘Child Labour!’ The Year 8 team was made up of Emily Hill who spoke about Domestic Violence. She was ably supported by Tia Butt and Astrid Gavin. ‘Beauty is more than skin deep’ was the subject on which the Year 9 team chose to speak: Hattie Collins, Rebecca Stacey and Natasha Howes made up this team and will go through to the next round.
All the teams acquitted themselves admirably and were excellent ambassadors for the school. Many thanks to all the parents and pupils who came to these heats as supporters.
