Pre-Prep and Prep School Winter Concert

The Pre-Prep and Prep School concert was held on Wednesday in the Main Hall. Once again there were participants from Reception to Year 6 and they performed to a very appreciative, capacity audience.
Students at St Margaret’s enjoy a wealth of opportunities and this concert was another reflection of the wide range of musical interests and ability of our budding musicians.

Although entitled the ‘Winter Concert’, the occasion had a distinctly ‘Christmassy’ flavour, with many items being of a seasonal nature!

The opening item was an arrangement of ‘The Drunken Sailor’ arranged especially by Mrs Maby, for the Prep School Instrumental Ensemble. It was lovely to see the sheer range of instruments being played, including violins, oboe, recorders, clarinets, as well as percussion.

The Pre-Prep captivated the audience with their amusing performances – with actions of course – of ‘You’ve Got to Have Bones’ and ‘When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney’. They are just so lovely to watch and were certainly really into the spirit of the event.

There were many solo performances played by Stellan Aalto (violin), Annabel Barnes, Tara Searle, Laurel Watts, Nina Savicevic, Molly Simpson (piano), Isabella Knott (flute), and Taylor Williams (saxophone). Without exception, they displayed competence and technical assurance. What a credit they are to themselves and their teachers – and how brave to perform so well in front of such a large audience!

The Prep School, having warmed up with a lovely performance of ‘Try to Remember’, finished the concert by ‘wowing’ the company with their fabulous performance of ‘The Christmas Jazz’. People were amazed that they had learnt such a lot of music and words in so short a time (music teachers can’t bear to start preparing Christmas music before November!). The students really rose to the occasion and sang clearly and enthusiastically, obviously enjoying every moment.

The standard and breadth of music-making just goes from strength to strength. By the end of the concert, everyone was well and truly in the Christmas spirit and seasonal refreshments were enjoyed afterwards.

My sincere thanks to everyone who helped to make the event such a success. Mrs Lowles
