The Speakeasy Murders ~ A Murder is announced
1929 – Although Al Capone had been in prison two months for carrying a concealed weapon (1 year sentence) the streets of downtown Chicago were still red with blood from the continued gang violence over illegal liquor. Other gangs, including his main rival, Bugs Moran cashed in on his absence. Mayor Deland, a supposedly upstanding figure in the community came up with a plan to test if the 18th amendment: the ban on alcohol, was really working. For a two month trial period he authorised that ‘The Regal’– one of the largest clubs in Chicago could sell liquor. It is here where this murder mystery unfolds.
Last night we had a fantastic performance at St Margaret’s first Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre. Set in the Regal Hotel “Chicago’s finest” in 1929 a plot of murder and intrigue unfolded performed by 6th form Drama students, as Mrs Clarke and her GCSE Home Economics students served a three course meal in traditional 1920s waitress outfits. Even the Express and Echo decided to stop by and see what all the fuss was about.
Towards the end of the evening prizes were awarded to Hannah Rowe for the best dressed 1920s outfit and to the Sixth Form table for cracking the case! Tonight a new plot will be revealed. Major suspects are shown below
