Junior Sports Day 2010
One of the most enjoyable sporting events of the year was Sports Day. It was a memorable morning (not only due to the brilliant weather!) with so many closely contested races and a display of great sportsmanship. In particular, the enthusiasm and team spirit during the 800m race was most admirable. Orla Kislingbury came first with Eliska Jackson-Smith a close second - these are two very promising athletes indeed! Both girls also showed that long distance running was not their only forte, by also excelling in sprinting and relay racing was too. Eliska also showed her superiority in the long jump managing a whopping 3.55m jump! Another pupil who showed a promising talent in both the sprint and the long jump was Henny Knott. Finally, the pupils thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Mums’ and Dads’ race - thank you Parents for being such good sports! Curie won the Prep Sports Day which was well deserved.
Quotes from the House Captains
“It was lovely to see everyone supporting each other on Sports Day. I ensured that every member had face paint or yellow ribbon on (in some cases both!).”
“The juniors were amazing in the morning: they were keen to take part in every event to gain points for their house. An extra special thanks goes to those who took part in the 800 metres: it is a very long way!”
“Senior Sports Day also showed that Bronte are the best House in the cheering department! With the loudest cheering and the brightest colour we stood out and proved ourselves a united and courageous team in all the events!”
“Although we did not win, we had a huge laugh taking part and enjoyed every minute - which is what Sports Day is all about!”
“Some airplanes may have passed over Exeter Arena on Sports Day and marvelled at the red blurs on the 400m track: what they were seeing was the fabulous Pankhurst house. Every member was thoroughly coated in red ribbon, face paint, glitter and balloons.”
“Our top medal winner was Holly King (well done!).”
“Congratulations to the Year 8 relay team who performed really well.”
