Daisy's Garden

The Pre-Prep children were blessed with a dry and sunny day for their trip to Daisy's garden on Wednesday. Everyone was very excited as they drove out to Thorverton in the school minibus.

Once there, they explored the extensive gardens before heading into the polytunnel. They had great fun trying to identify the different fruits and vegetables that were growing and were able to pull up some carrots, spring onions and radishes. Careful examination of the fruit trees and bushes gave clues as to which types of fruits were growing on them. Much fun was had tasting the foods, with great discussions about their different flavours.

The pond and streams were home to much wildlife although the moorhen decided to keep her chicks safely away from us!

Later, the children turned into artists and spent a long time drawing the bridge over the stream, which was like the one in a Monet picture they had studied. They displayed their pictures in an art gallery which they created in the garden.

We would like to thank Mrs Batchelor for inviting us to visit her garden and making us so welcome. We all had a fantastic day and have been inspired to grow our own vegetables!
